Get Creative With Pinhole Cameras And Use Up All That Old Film

If you used to shoot film and made the switch to digital at some point, chances are you still have leftover film lying about. I had half a fridge door full of all kinds of film, some expired, some on the verge, and decided I needed to do something fun with it.

April 26 is Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, so I thought we'd talk about pinhole cameras in this article.

Pinhole photography is nothing new - the basic optical principles are mentioned in 5th century BC texts from China, and the first documented photos taken with a pinhole camera are from the mid-1800s. You can make a pinhole camera from just about anything, and people do, but in most cases, you have to load and unload the film in total darkness, which can be tricky. If you do want to give pinhole photography a try, but prefer not to hide in a closet to put the film in, check out these cameras:

Pinhole Blender Pinhole Blender makes cameras from what looks like cookie and tea tins with knobs on top (for turning the film). They accept 35mm, 120 and 4x5 film (the 4x5 has to be loaded in the dark though), and are really very affordable, ranging in price from $20 to $80. Best of all, they come with instructions and exposure suggestions. You can obviously get as creative as you want with that, but it's nice to have a starting point at least.

Holga Pinhole Cameras The Holga cameras, which originated in Hong Kong in 1982 and immediately became hugely popular with photographers worldwide, come in many different configurations - small and medium format pinhole among them. Both have one shutter speed (B), standard cable release and tripod threads and a pinhole opening instead of a lens. The 35mm camera has an aperture of f/175, while the medium format's is f/192. A package including either camera, 10 rolls of film and cable release (highly recommended) is $100.

The Hexomniscope If you get hooked on pinhole photography and want to give something truly unique a try, check out the pinhole camera from Pinhole Resource. People all over the world take pinhole photos of anything and everything and post them, good or bad, online. It's not a contest, there are no prizes, but each year, a number of photos are chosen and included in an exhibit.

Creating Mobiles And Windchimes From Scratch!...

There seems to be a ready market for these mobiles and windchimes. I think that windchimes have a wonderful fascination for people and they seem to be used more and more in gardens now and all children love mobiles from a tender age.

Of course you can make them in a variety of ways and they leave plenty of scope for a bit of improvisation on your part! You will need to save a lid for this from something you use at home. Preferably a plastic one, to have a base to work from, as you will need a circle to hang your items from.

If you have found a suitable lid for this, you now will have to remove the middle of it. So get cutting with a craft knife or scissors. The width of the rim left will need to be at least 1 centimetre and now you will need to make some holes at regular intervals all the way round this.

You may not like the colour of your ring and therefore decide to paint it another colour. If you are going to do this, use an acrylic paint, like gold or silver. You will also need to decide which holes you are going to use for hanging this by.

You need to sort out your hanging strings now (4 in all). So gather what you will, in the form of string or cord. The cord needs to be cut long enough to enable you to go through one of your four designated holes, with enough string left at the bottom to hang your items, but also have enough length at the top to hang it by, when joined with the other three. Enough to knot them all together and make a hanging loop.

As you will have quite a few more holes still on the ring, you are going to need some more strings cut to match the length of the others when they are tied, but only from the ring. These want cutting and after they are affixed, add a large bell to the bottom of the main four. Continue by putting smaller bells on any other strings and preferably some of these will jingle.

If you think this is may be too plain, you can always decorate these, by painting the bells in other colours and use gaudy cords. Nail varnish colours would do the trick, or some metallic paint, or any acrylic.

This is just a general guideline of how you could go about it. Naturally you will have some ideas of your own which you can try. But I will just put a few ideas your way. How about using some old keys? These can be painted too.

However, it may be that you actually live in or near a seaside town. In this instance, you could scour the beach for nice shells, which would be very effective. If this is out of the question, you may be in luck if you visit a local art and craft store, as these sometimes stock shells, mainly for craft work. Failing this, small stones would go on strings, if they are glued properly.

Personally, I often think that strings made of coloured beads in glass are rather nice. Also, at Christmas, why not use the lovely silver and gold beads as decorations and cut them to the size you want and, if that's not enough, you can still add items at the bottom.

There are a variety of people out there, especially those 30 and younger that haven't seen real turntables, although they may have seen them in a movie. People 20 and younger might not have even ever seen turntables in a movie.

A turntable is actually a machine that is designed to play vinyls and records. Turntables work through a special needle being dragged in the groove that is on the records that are played. This needle begins on the outside part of the record then moves towards the middle. The needle makes a oscillating electrical current. This then drives the sound into the speakers.

Today we take a lot of audio technology for granted, such as stereo sound and high fidelity, but these technologies came from the turntable. During the 1990s, CD players were released and turntables began to go out of style.

CDs became popular during the 80s and most of the music of that day was put on the CDs instead of LPs, which meant that most labels started using the CDs. With the CDs, people were able to quickly find the music they wanted to hear, they were cheap, provided great sound, and were more compact.

Some people still do appreciate all that turntables have to offer. For the records, analog instead of digital reproduction is used. This provides sounds that sound alive and very warm. Many of the records out there have never even been put into a digital format at all

Many of the people that even have turntables today have a nostalgic streak in them. They love hearing the old musical selections and love this form of music. It's just that this music is not available on the CDs out there.

St. Patricks Day is a fun celebration for everyone. Let your little ones enjoy St. Patricks Day by teaching them how to make their own Leprechaun eyeglasses . Leprechauns are said to vanish if you let them out of your sight. The legend also says that leprechauns have hidden treasures and the only way to get them is by catching and interrogating one.

To make Leprechaun glasses you must first gather the materials. You will need: a green construction or cardboard paper, a pipe cleaner, a pair of blunt-end scissors and green cellophane. Cut along the green construction paper or cardboard by making it into a glasses shape. Cut through the center to create eyeholes. Paste the green cellophane through the eyeholes. Poke or punch through the side ends of the glasses and insert the pipe cleaner, gently twist the end to set. Place it onto your kids ear and gently curl the end to settle in her ears.

To make handprint shamrock you must first gather the materials. You will need: light green and green-colored construction paper, scissors and glue. Place a childs hand on the green construction paper and trace. Make three hand traces following the shape of the three leafed clover. Next, cut out the hand traces. Place the hand trace on the light green construction paper and trace a big three-clover leaf. Cut it and glue a stem at the bottom using the green colored construction paper.

The biggest movies that are being made these days come mostly from the United States, China and India. These countries are leading the way in today?s movie production, with some of them relying heavily on the movie industry as a whole.

Hollywood is where the majority of movie productions in the United States are based. Comprising of a huge network of movie studios, stars and personnel, the business is spread all across Los Angeles and the surrounding area.

Hollywood is actually a district situated in the north-west of downtown Los Angeles. Because of its fame and the cultural individuality of movie studios and movie stars, the word Hollywood is often used as a metaphor for the cinema of the United States, and is commonly known as Hollywood film industry all around the world.

Hollywood started off when D.W. Griffith first came to the area in 1910 with a film crew to shoot some footage of the area. Before long they had adopted a vacant lot in the downtown area of Los Angeles. Then they began exploring the areas around Los Angeles and found that the area was very quick to adapt to their needs. The temperate weather and endless hours of sunshine were a great incentive to shoot there also.

After shooting the movie ?Old California?, which is widely regarded as the very first movie shot there, the film company decided to stay on in the area and produce more movies from there.

Around 1913 there was a sudden influx of other movie companies and film producers rushing to the area to take advantage of the area and what it had to offer. This is the time that is widely regarded as the birth of Hollywood and the movie industry as we know it.

The first ever movie studio in Hollywood was the Nestor Studios that were founded in 1911. The movie ?The Squaw Man? was produced around this time also. More movie studios moved to the area and in no time, Los Angeles and particularly Hollywood grew at a dramatic page. Eventually this area became very strongly associated with the movies and epitomes the movie industry as a whole.

It was during the First World War however that Hollywood really came into it?s own and was seen as the movie capital of the world. By the 50?s, much of the country?s movie industry had moved to Hollywood, and the music industry was beginning to follow suite.

The famous Hollywood sign originally read Hollywoodland, was constructed in 1923, originally intended as an advertisement for a new housing development in the area. It was left to rot away, until in 1949 the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce repaired the sign, removing the last four letters. The sign, now located at Mount Lee, is a now registered trademark.

Everyone sees Hollywood as the film capital of the world, and all eyes turn to the town for it?s stars and showbiz, especially for special occasions like the Oscars.

2. One short cut you can take as you start off is to consider using your computer to make your page borders. Doing them by hand can be time consuming. Just be careful of the ink you use as certain types of ink can discolor your pictures over time.

3. So we have mentioned already that there are really no limits or rules when you scrap book as it is your imagination that guides you. You are free to use any materials you want even if they might pose problems down the road. It is nice to know that you dont need to despair over this. You can use a called the Archival Spray. Using this spray on your souvenirs will create the barrier you need against acid.
