Asparagus is a flower bearing plant in the genus Asparagus which the vegetable known as asparagus came from. It is a widely cultivated vegetable crop. The young shoots of the asparagus is the only edible part. The shoots are served in many different ways.

Asparagus is also used in stews and soups. In France, it is often boiled or steamed and served with hollandaise sauce, melted butter or olive oil, Parmesan cheese or mayonnaise. It may even be served as a dessert. Stir Fried and grilled are usually the best way to serve asparagus. In Asia asparagus are mostly stir fried, In the US grilled asparagus is mostly known.

Asparagus is eaten worldwide. Due to the popularity of it, makes it less of a delicacy than it was before. However, in some European countries that have a short growing season, asparagus remains a highlight food. Northern Europe considers white asparagus as "white gold" for its rareness. Asparagus has a short season you can only find them from April to June and they are a bit pricey for they are harvested by hands.

There are many benefits that you can find in an asparagus. Asparagus is rich in folic acid that helps lessen birth defects during pregnancy. It is good for the heart; it helps in good blood circulation and helps fight bad cholesterol. Another is that, asparagus lessens stress and depression. Asparagus also helps in preventing multiple sclerosis and scurvy. Lastly; it has been known that asparagus increases the success rate of chemo therapy.

Asparagus festival is a three day fest; the festival promotes the benefits of asparagus. Also, Asparagus Festival implies that asparagus is one of nature's perfect foods. Asparagus Festival also seeks to encourage the production and consumption of asparagus. It also teaches the people about asparagus cultivation and agricultural study. What Should We Know About Art?...

Art today covers so many things. The choices that you have are endless, so there is something to suit everybody's taste. So much we can learn about it from looking at the Masters. However, you can appreciate art even if you are a beginner to it all.

As a race the Chinese and Japanese generally use black and white to express themselves. Very cleverly they use brushes for both their writings and their drawings. Brushes, in fact, made of hair with a very fine point, ideal for their delicate work, with a bamboo handle.

It is usual for the brushes to have handles of bamboo and I would imagine these go back to the paintings of Zen. They seem to sometimes paint with these long painted brushes with a very delicate stroke, sometimes in ink over a slight wash.

The long fine brushes they use seem to create lovely flowing works of art which appear so true to form and give out the freedom of movement. Naturally this works well on silk. The trees and waters are expressed well like this.

Expressionism as we know it is not necessarily a true representational art form. Really I would go as far as to say, it is how you express your inner feelings on a given subject emotionally.

Let us use the famous painter Van Gogh as an example. To the normal person much of his work appears to be totally distorted. The weird shapes and forms created turned into natural genius!

Impressionism is the Monet type of painting. Here you have very short dashes that bring together the painting when they are close together. Especially if you stand well back to look at them.

These really are appreciated the world over. His interesting floral and water scenes are a typical example and where the light actually reflects on the painting. Interestingly enough they appear as a series of dots and dashes which then appear to join up. This style of painting is Impressionism which heralds from the 19th Century.

Let us consider Still Life paintings now. Are they easily achievable? I think not. They appear so easy on the eye. Probably because we all recognize the typical types of subjects that are used for this. How often do we stop and think how talented artists are?

Simple items are not always easy to reproduce and you need a good backdrop for this type of work. I think that this dates back to about the 17th century and the famous Dutch Masters. How fantastic some of these artists from a bygone age were, and so forward thinking.

Now to the regular night-time scenes found in gay Paris created by the likes of Toulouse-Lautrec. How he loved all this and brought the subjects all to life for us and into our homes as posters etc. showing the bawdy lifestyle of the local artists and burlesque in the dance halls.

Even Monet did some amazing humorous sketches often of his friends yet still created such fantastic luminous colourful scenes. They were always so lovely and bright.

So many wonderful artists, too many to mention, Constable, J.W.Turner, Renoir, and Picasso, and what a talent Salvador Dali.

One of my favourites happens to be Salvador Dali. His work appeared to know no bounds. He surely is one of the greatest painters ever known. Barcelona is fortunate to have so many examples for the general public to savour.
